[Tuesday, November 22, 2016] Baldwin County Sewer Service (BCSS) is currently in our sludge remediation process at the Malbis Wastewater Treatment Plant off Highway 90 in Malbis (Daphne). As part of our wastewater (sewer) treatment operations, BCSS processes sludge (bio solids) and spreads the bio solids as fertilizer approximately two times per year. We work closely on this endeavor with an environmental engineering company, and it is approved by and reported to Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
Depending on the weather and the wind, this process can produce a foul odor in the area. We plan to finish the current sludge processing there on Wednesday, November 23 around noon and start it again on November 28 for about five days. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience the unpleasant odor has caused. The odor should stop the afternoon of November 23 and not smell during Thanksgiving day or for the rest of this week.
