Environmental Responsibility

People value Baldwin County’s natural setting, and Baldwin County Sewer Service helps to preserve it. The health of our waterways greatly impacts our area’s beauty and its property values. Sanitary sewer services can prevent harm to water quality from problematic septic systems; this includes the water in which we swim, fish and drink. We work diligently to protect our environment with our daily operations.

Sustainability Efforts

We continue to make changes to our operations, no matter how small, in an effort to decrease our carbon footprint. Here are some actions we have taken so far to become more eco-friendly:

  • Provide reusable items to employees, such as trash and recycle bags for vehicles, grocery bags and water bottles.
  • Offer reusable water bottles, tumblers and cups to visitors.
  • Send recyclable materials to Waste Management for recycling.
  • Provide a portable, filtered water dispenser, Water on Wheels, at community events.
  • Bills, letterhead and envelopes are printed on post-consumer waste paper.
  • Display “Please consider recycling this bill” on bills.
  • We offer electronic forms that save on paper, envelopes and postage.
  • Use hand towels in bathrooms and kitchens for drying hands and cleaning to reduce paper towel usage.
  • Use reusable serving ware and silverware more frequently in the offices instead of disposable products for takeout and catered meals.
  • Began to donate annually to the Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees campaign, which is a major forest restoration effort with a goal of planting a billion trees across the planet. You can learn more about it on their website. Trees provide so many benefits to our everyday lives. They filter clean air, provide fresh drinking water, help curb climate change, and create homes for thousands of species of plants and animals.

Education

BCSS dedicates a lot of time emphasizing the importance of keeping grease and harmful materials out of any type of sewer system. Our User Tips page offers a comprehensive guide on system care for sewer system customers, as well as septic system users. We are continually encouraging people to keep grease and other unsafe items out of drains. BCSS provides complimentary magnets, signs, and grease containers to our customers at our office and events. The User Tips page also provides drop off location for your grease containers to be recycled.

As a certified septic tank pumping company, we also guide septic system owners on how to maintain their septic systems.

Meet BCSS mascot Crystal Clean at community events where water quality lessons, educational/fun games and informative materials are offered.

Sewer Spill Prevention

A great amount of time and resources are spent educating our customers and the community about how to maintain their system to prevent sewer spills. Learn more at BCSS Safety site.

Sewer Service Benefits

Less Hassle. Takes the burden of wastewater removal away from consumers, especially during heavy rain.

Can Improve Property Value. Some mortgage lenders even require connecting to sewer service where available for refinancing or purchasing property.

Reliable. BCSS offers sewer service and repairs for its customers as needed 24/7/365, and your call is always handled by a real person.

Good for the environment. Field line effluent from septic systems can pollute ground water. Public sanitary sewer service safely treats wastewater consistently.

Provides More Space. Takes up much less room on the property than a septic system, increasing room to build & utilize land.
