Plans for Next Bio-Solids Remediation

Baldwin County Sewer Service (BCSS) is planning a sludge remediation process at our Plantation Hills Wastewater Treatment Plant off Highway 90 in Loxley, in the next few days (weather permitting). As part of the wastewater treatment operation, BCSS processes the treated sludge (biosolids) and, after required testing, applies the biosolids as fertilizer to the land adjoining the Plant. This biosolid application process is performed twice a year and is closely monitored by our lead Wastewater Treatment Operator and management to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations.
Since this application process can produce an odor, BCSS plans to complete the process as soon as possible, usually within a few days, but it depends in part on the weather. We are continuing to try to improve the biosolid application process and hope that there will be little or no odor in the surrounding areas.
