  • BCSS Combats Fay's Rains

    Crews manage flows in Summerdale
When Tropical Depression Fay passed through during the weekend without fanfare, residents of Baldwin County collectively breathed a sigh of relief. It was somewhat shortlived, however, as gusty winds and torrential rains reappeared with a vengeance on Monday, August 26. BCSS crews, who had been on standby days before Fay passed by the first time, had measures in place to counter the effects of excessive stormwater runoff.

"In this business, you have to stay ahead of it. Our men and equipment know the drill and were in place ready to shift flows from problem areas. We have offline storage available to divert excess runoff during peak rains," said Richie Barnett, BCSS Operations Manager. "Our guys do a great job. I'm real proud of them. Working around the clock during emergencies is nothing new to us."

Baldwin County Sewer Service, LLC operates the largest private sewer network in the state with over 2.5 million linear feet of sewer force mains covering about 460 square miles from the tip of Fort Morgan to Whitehouse Forks.
